Punjab government will again introduce agricultural amendment bill in the assembly

The Punjab government will reintroduce the state amendment bill in the Legislative Assembly to neutralize the central agricultural laws as the earlier passed bills were not sent by the Governor to the President. CM Amarinder Singh said after concurrence after the all-party meeting, ‘We will bring the bill again because according to the constitution, if the bills are passed twice by the Legislative Assembly, the Governor has to send them to the President”. He further added that the governor cannot stop the bills. States have been authorized to amend laws under Article 254 of the Constitution.

CM told in the meeting that he will ask for an appointment with the President again. He said that on the suggestion of the Prime Minister, he is in constant contact with the Union Home Minister on the issue of farming laws and farmers’ movement. Earlier in the all-party meeting, all political parties except the BJP raised their voice in favour of the farmers in unison. Leaders of AAP, Shiromani Akali Dal, Lok Insaaf Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and other parties had reached the meeting.

The Captain also promised to look into the suggestion of Prem Singh Chandumajra that the state government will provide relief to the families of the farmers killed in the ongoing farmer agitation. The SAD party had submitted a proposal to the state government to waive off the loans of farmers.
