Income Tax Department conducted raids on the premises of film director Anurag Kashyap, actress Taapsee Pannu and filmmaker Vikas Bahl on Wednesday. All three Bollywood celebrities have been giving anti-government statements from time to time. They have also supported the farmer’s movement against the new agricultural laws. Sources said that the department conducted raids at 30 locations in Mumbai and Pune. These also have the premises of Anurag, Tapasi and Vikas.
Department also raided the premises of Phantom Films, its former partner Madhu Mantena and Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibashish Sarkar. Phantom Films was founded in 2011 by Anurag, director Vikramaditya Motwane, Mantena and UTV Spotboys head Vikas Bahl. It was dissolved in 2018. Income tax officials also questioned Anurag and Tapasi in Pune.
Anurag had participated in the protests in JNU and Shaheen Bagh against the Citizenship Amendment Act last year. Tapsi had said on February 4 about the controversy over the statement of foreign celebrities on the farmer’s movement, “If a comment breaks your unity, a joke defies trust, then you have to work to strengthen your value system.”
