FIR registered against Babita Ji of Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

It seems that ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ fame Babitaji aka Munmun Dutta’s problems are not going to end. A few days ago she made racist remarks on social media, for which people are angry and demanding action against her. Now after the complaint of Mumbai Congress activist Vinod Kajania, an FIR has been lodged against Munmun Dutta at Amboli police station. In fact, Kajania, who hails from Mulund, had complained to the Goregaon police station on 12 May, which was transferred to Amboli police station, as the actress remains under the jurisdiction of this police station. The first FIR complainant in Maharashtra along with Valmiki Vikas Sangh officer Reshammal Bohit has filed an FIR against Munmun under various sections of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act – 2015 along with Section 295 of the IPC and has demanded immediate arrest of the actress. Earlier, FIRs have also been registered against the actress in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and Hansi, Haryana. But this is the first FIR against her in Maharashtra.

Munmun Dutta posted a video on social media a few days ago. In this, she was talking about makeup. Munmun said in the video, “I am going to come to YouTube. I want to look good. I do not want to look like anybody”. In this video, she used the racial term. After the controversy escalated, the actress took the video off social media and publicly apologized. Munmun wrote in her apology, “This is in reference to that video.  which I posted on May 10, where a word I used has been misinterpreted. It was not intended to offend, threaten or hurt anyone’s feelings. Due to my language barrier, I did not know the true meaning. Once I was told about it, I immediately removed that part of the video. I have respect for every person from every caste, creed or gender. I acknowledge his contribution to society or nation. I sincerely want to apologize to every person who has been hurt by the unintentional use of the word. I feel sorry for him.”

Mumbai Congress member Rajesh Ingale said in a conversation, “There are many actors from the Valmiki community in the TV and film industry who are beautiful. The commentary thus attributed to Munmun Dutta’s particular community for its ugliness is extremely shocking. Not only has she hurt thousands of people in that community, but also the fans of the actress. Being a popular TV star and celebrity, she should be responsible and sensitive about her statements. An example should be set by arresting her so that celebrities and other people refrain from making derogatory remarks towards the SC, ST community.”
